New uniform packaging for all Hefty^® drawstring waste bag products delivers cost savings across the supply chain, enhances consumer satisfaction and requires less raw material.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – June 2, 2008 – Pactiv Corporation, maker of Hefty^® brand products, today announced the transition of its complete line of Hefty^® drawstring waste bag products to a new Space Saver package. This new Hefty^® packaging is up to 40 percent smaller and more compact than the existing packaging for the same number of bags. This makes it easier for consumers to store and use; makes transportation, warehouse storage and retail displays more efficient; and requires the use of significantly less packaging material, benefiting the environment. Hefty^® Space Saver packaging is made from 100-percent recycled paperboard.

Consumers will like the new Hefty^® Space Saver packaging because it features bag-on-a-roll packaging technology, which is designed to dispense one bag at a time while keeping the bulk roll contained inside the carton. The compact size enables the Hefty^® Space Saver pack to be easily stored under the kitchen sink, in the pantry or in a drawer, which often is not possible with larger packs.

The new uniform width for all Space Saver packaging for Hefty^® drawstring waste bag products will enable merchants to more easily change retail shelf merchandising to address specific market needs. With the Space Saver packs, more products can be placed on a retail shelf helping to reduce the frequency of out-of-stock situations. This should enable retailers to sell more products, and minimize consumers’ frustration resulting from out-of-stock product.

The smaller size and uniform width of the Space Saver packaging should also create efficiencies throughout the supply chain. The new size will enable Hefty^® drawstring waste bag products to be easily shipped with other Hefty^® products and to more fully utilize available space during shipment. Merchants’ back-stock of Hefty^® products in the warehouse will also require a smaller footprint, which can help to free up warehouse space needed for additional stock.

The transition to Hefty^® Space Saver packaging has begun. Conversion of the full line of products to the Space Saver packaging will take place over the next nine months.
