Our Pactiv roots stretch back to 1959, when Central Fibre, American Boxboard, and Ohio Boxboard merged to form Packaging Corporation of America (PCA). Those companies bear little resemblance to the Pactiv we know today, as they operated paper mills that exclusively produced cardboard boxes.
Tenneco Inc. purchased PCA in 1965, and during the next 34 years the company undertook a number of acquisitions, including the acquisition of Mobil Plastics Company in 1995 and Amoco Foam Products Company in 1996, which formed the basis of the current Pactiv business. As a result, its product portfolio expanded to include aluminum, clear plastic, foam products, molded fiber and pressware. Many current Pactiv employees trace their roots with the company back to Mobil or Amoco, including our CEO John McGrath, who came from Mobil.
Our name has changed numerous times, from PCA to Tenneco Packaging Inc. (1995) to Pactiv Corporation (1999), when we were spun off by Tenneco, becoming an independent company. Since 1999, we have pursued a number of strategic mergers and acquisitions, each with an eye toward strengthening our position in the foodservice packaging industry, including adding Jaguar (2002), Newspring (2005), Prairie Packaging (2007), and PWP Industries (2010).
In 2010, Pactiv was acquired by Rank Group Limited, and we became part of Reynolds Group Holdings Limited (RGHL), a global manufacturer and supplier of consumer food and beverage packaging and storage products. Since the Rank acquisition, we have continued to grow, incorporating the legacy Reynolds Foodservice business to Pactiv, acquiring Dopaco in 2011, and adding International Tray Pads and Packaging and Interplast Packaging in 2012.
Underlying our growth has been our unwavering commitment to our core principles, which are reflected in our “One Pactiv” model. These principles help us do the right thing the right way, and they guide both our daily activities and our long-term strategy. One of our core principles is customer service and being a “one-stop” destination for our customers, who can buy everything they need from us and have it all shipped on the same truck.
Adding clear plastic, foam products, paper products, cutlery, aluminum foil, aluminum trays and others to our vast portfolio of food packaging products makes sense for us because it makes sense for our customers, providing them with the best overall value on the widest selection of products, delivered in the most efficient manner possible. That’s our promise and we are continually looking to enhance our product lines to serve you better.
